Metaphorically, inversionist technique works in literature the same way it does in art. Its aim is in reversal: to substitute the "natural" outcome in the logical development of some point being made in the text with an antonymous phrase. The crux of such a technique is in reversal. While the "natural" outcome towards which the logic of a point is leading, although never verbalized, is still deductible and thus implied, the surprise at reading something opposite to what has been hinted at and thus awaited, makes the implied outcome much more powerful and expressive. Furthermore, inversionism is a technique on the verge of absurd: it is meant to shock, and thus contributes to a more active reading.
