My philosophy on the inversion is as fallows: An inversion can be an image, poem, thought or idea that conveys the hidden information behind its subject. Example with an image, the inversion can be the process of flipping colors to reveal a hidden spectrum.
Let’s say the image is one of a lost boy setting on a lonely beach on a cheerful, sunny day. As we look closer we note that his head is bowed and he sobs into his hands.
This is an inversion on many levels. At first it appears to be a cheerful picture of a boy sitting on a sunny, beach but if we understand a little bit about color spectrum and psychology we quickly realize that there is a lot more that can be revealed.
If we invert the colors changing blue sky to a deep umber, the white sand to a dark grey, then we have the ability to influence the viewer on a deeper level.
I use Photoshop for my inversions because it takes the actual data that is contained in the colors and inverts it. This to me is a more precise representation of the locked- up information in the image.
